In the first half of 2012, ICANN accepted applications from large Organizations wanting to use new domain extensions. ICANN has received more than 1900 applications for new top level domains. The first New gTLD was released on the 23rd of April in 2013. The first new domains went live to the general public in the autumn of 2013.
